History} Bia comes from an alternate Earth in the early twenty-first century, one very much like our own. However, in her world there exist a number of places where the walls between Earth and parallel worlds are thin, and it's possible to pass through – if you know the trick. In Brazil, such a portal exists in the Amazon river itself, and the world on the other side is called, by those who believe in it, the Encante. The Encante is a place without age, death, or pain. Many of the river dolphins of the Amazon, or boto as they are called, are inhabitants of the Encante, visiting the mortal realm. The Encantado take human shape to attend parties they haven't been invited to, to seduce beautiful young men or women who take their fancy, and occasionally to charm their lovers or their illegitimate children back into the Amazon and the Encante to join them. These boto in human form tend to be attractive, wildly enthusiastic for music and dance and skilled at it themselves, and they always wear a hat – even in human form, a boto still has a blowhole on top of his or her head.
In 1972, a young, single Brazilian woman attended a party where she met a handsome young man in a sharp white suit with matching hat. The man was beautiful and charming, laughing and dancing and sweeping everyone up in his enthusiasm, and the woman was all too happy to be seduced. Afterwards, however, she couldn't find him, and even her hosts admitted that they didn't know who he was either; he'd come uninvited. She soon discovered that her mysterious lover had left her pregnant.
Four years later, the woman's three-year-old daughter, Beatriz, disappeared from the banks of the Amazon. The death was ruled a tragic drowning accident, though the child's body was never found.
The truth was quiet different. Her father had come to claim her, finding her to be a pretty child who would grow into a beautiful woman. He took her down beneath the surface of the river to the Encante, where he changed her into a boto like himself, able to take either human or dolphin form at will.
Beatriz, called Bia, grew into maturity rapidly in the strange time of the Encante, though with no memory of her human life. She enjoys the pleasures of the mortal realm, often visiting and seeking out parties where she can let loose and enjoy herself, or even just swimming in the river and seeking out some playful mischief. More than one man or woman has encountered a lovely, strange girl at a party and been unable to find her again. Like many boto, she finds the Encante to be boring in comparison, although it's still home.

Personality} Bia is best described by the word “frivolous.” Her first rule in life is to have fun. She doesn't worry about tomorrow or yesterday, existing almost completely in the moment. Everything she can make into a game, she will. Not every game is entirely considerate of those around her, but it's rare for her to really wish anyone around her ill will. Though Bia is not an unkind person, and is never really interested in hurting anyone else, she sees humans more as playthings, toys or pets, than as equals, and a little fun at their expense is never completely uncalled for. That said, she is certainly fond of humans, both for the diversion and entertainment they provide and as fascinating mortal souls. Even if her own mother was human, this is true for many boto, and it doesn't greatly affect her opinion of them. Bia rarely thinks about her mother, and is too much a creature of the moment to dwell much on the mystery of who she might have been. This is typical of boto culture; she knows her mother was human, but anything else is irrelevant to her life. Humans are, to her, simple creatures worthy of appreciation, but nothing approaching regret, unless they're deemed special enough to be tempted into the river. Her mother was not, and she was, and this is the way of the world. The Encante culture pays little heed to status or rank, and a boto born of a human or who was once a human is welcomed as readily as someone without a drop of human blood in their veins. Though there might be some irony in her being a plaything of the Sultana, when she herself has always had a similar view of humans, this mostly escapes her and certainly doesn't concern her at all.
Bia's father was a light-hearted soul, even for the playful and irresponsible boto, and she takes after him wholeheartedly. As a child she adored him, and has always remained friendly with him. She's easily bored, impatient, and more inclined to giggle than get angry. It's hard to make her mad, or sad; on the other hand, it's difficult to get her to take anything seriously. The boto are long-lived, and functionally immortal if they stay in the Encante, and such a long life means a cultural dismissal of more serious matters. Bia is no different in this respect. She might seem shallow, but she's as attracted to a kind soul, or a fun-loving soul, as she is to someone physically attractive. She doesn't believe in having enemies; the whole world is her friend. Bia likes bright colours, strong flavours, loud music; she's a sensualist at heart. It's difficult to get her truly angry, but once she feels like she has been seriously wounded by someone she will make every effort to make their life miserable to make amends for the slight she's suffered, until she's arbitrarily decided that the debt has been paid, at which point she will forgive the grudge entirely. The only thing she likes better than an excellent party (preferably one where she is a guest and not hostess) is excellent sex. She will never ever take off her hat, or stylish headscarf, or whatever else she happens to be wearing, since even in human form she has a blowhole on the top of her head, and it's sort of of a giveaway.
Abilities} She can shapeshift into a large pink dolphin, a boto. She also possesses some minor charming magic, able to encourage people she meets to like her and agree to what she asks.

I don't know why anyone wouldn't enjoy themselves. Look around you! This is all the best parts of the Encante, and all the best parts of the mortal realm. The weather here is warm, the people beautiful. I wouldn't say no to a good, deep river, but I suppose that would be asking too much. There is the Sultana, I suppose. If worship is what she wants then I'm not sure I'm the one to give her that, but a little fun? Oh, I can do that. That's not a chore. Haven't you seen her?
